Announcements:

Herman J. thanked everyone for supporting the dinner at Applewood. We had a net of about $1,600 which will allow for 3 $500 scholarships for El Molino Culinary.

The Crab Feed is now sold out! If anyone has tickets they won't sell, we could use them back to sell to people on our waiting list. We also need donations of red wine. We will need another 8 or 9 cases.

Herman G. plugged the Holiday Extravaganza. Parade judge volunteers are needed if anyone is interested. The Princess and Prince dinner will be at Chef Patrick's on 12/5. Tickets are $35.

Happy Bucks: Hans is happy that Lori doesn't have to be a politician anymore and gave $5. Now he can be the chief schmoozer again! Lori gave $20 in relief for the end of her election campaign. Ross matched it. Herman G. matched it up to $10 for his young age (but then was fined $5 for saying he was 1/4th of Ross's age!). Lori gave another $4 to be happy to be working with Herman G. Andy gave $5 in appreciation for getting his insurance salesperson license. Finally, Ed gave $20 in celebration of the birth of his 5th grandchild!

Fines: Mike Nicholls was fined $5 for sharing in Andy's birthday celebration at Bistro des Copains. Then another $15 for being quoted in a Press Democrat article about rural broadband access. This put Michael over his fine limit, so he passed $11 of it on to President Ross! Lori was fined $5 for leaving her travel blender at Ross's house during her Fireside Chat. Chuck was nailed for $5 for being late, $5 for involuntarily volunteering Kim as a parade judge, and yet another $5 for forgetting what he was supposed to fine Ross for. The long lost Michael DeProto was fined for the anniversary of his induction in 1988. Due to his absence, he voluntarily boosted his fine to $105 (with the last $5 being passed on to Herman J.) Herman J. drew another two $2 fines for speaking out of order during the meeting. Andy was also fined $5 for his birthday and dinner at the Bistro in Occidental. Knud was in a talkative mood and was fined $2 for speaking out of order.

Raffle:

The winning raffle ticket was held by Chuck. He managed to pull the ace of diamonds for a $50 payday!

Program:

The program was the bestowing of the title of Honorary Rotarian on both Rich and Roscoe.

Rich has been a Rotarian for 43 years and now that he has sold his restaurant, he is looking to spend more time enjoying R&R. Roscoe has had an amazing record of 50 years of perfect attendance.

Herman told the story of his joining the Club in 1973 and being intimidated by many of the big shots in town. He also told us how he was thrown into the pool at Murphy's Ranch by Rich during one of the debunkings! He also told us about the annual canoe trips down the river from Healdsburg. Roscoe and Chuck Marcia used to jump out of concealed positions and tip the canoes of others.

Mike Torr remembered back as well. Specifically that he is took Herman's place as youngest member! He was 32 when he joined. Having grown up in the area, he was a bit more familiar with many of the members. He always appreciated that with Roscoe, his handshake was as good as a contract.

Lastly, Chuck thanked Roscoe for being there during his Fireside chat.

Thought for the Day:Brendan asked,"If the opposite of 'pro' is 'con', what is the opposite of 'progress'?"

The Four Way Test

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build good will and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

2nd: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

3rd: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

4th: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
